Selecting the Right Toothbrush
When it comes to selecting a toothbrush we always recommend selecting a toothbrush with soft bristles. Although it may seem like harder bristles would clean “better”, they can actually damage enamel and your teeth.
Brushing Your Teeth Properly
- Hold the toothbrush at a 45-degree angle in relation to your gums.
- Gently brush in short (tooth-wide) strokes back and forth.
- Be sure that you brush the outer, inner, and chewing surfaces of all your teeth.
- Always brush for at least two minutes, twice per day.
Selecting the Right Floss
When it comes to selecting dental floss, it is important to make sure you select a product that works for you. There are a wide range of options, including waxed, flavored, etc. Floss picks can be an excellent choice for children or those with mobility issues.
Flossing Your Teeth Properly
- Use approximately 18 inches of dental floss, winding it around the middle finger of one hand and index finger of the other hand.
- Leave 1-2 inches of floss between each hand to direct between the teeth.
- Gently guide the dental floss between each of your teeth, using new areas of the dental floss as needed.
Additional Oral Hygiene Tips:
- If you cannot brush after meals during the day, wash your meal down with a glass of water. Additionally, you can carry mouthwash with you to use after meals.
- A tongue scraper can be an excellent tool to remove bacteria from the tongue, reducing your risk of bad breath.
